The shawarma is a dish originating in the Middle East consisting of thin slices of lamb, chicken or beef grilled on a vertical spit, eaten inside a pita bread with vegetables and other accompaniments. It has become popular in Europe as fast food thanks to the influence of North African and Turkish immigrants.
